Montgomery, Alabama (May 4, 2026) — The Spring Explosion weekend saw not just the return of the Show Me The Money Pro Late Models, but also the return of some of Montgomery Motor Speedway’s core divisions.
The core divisions were highlighted in a big way, with Race 1 of the Street Stock Tri-Track Cruise Quest, a 30-lap Late Model Sportsman feature, and a 25-lap race for the Crown Stocks.
Jake Finch Continues Pro Late Model Dominance with Spring Explosion 100 Victory
Jake Finch (no. 18) and Ronnie Sanders Racing have been unstoppable so far this spring, whether it be in Show Me The Money series competition at Montgomery Motor Speedway or elsewhere.
With Finch’s victory in the Spring Explosion 100 on Saturday, the Lynn Haven, Fl. native has scored five Pro Late Model victories in as many attempts, dating back to the 62nd Annual Alabama 200 at Montgomery back in March. Since then, Finch has scored victories at South Alabama Speedway, Cordele Motor Speedway, and Five Flags Speedway before returning to his winning ways at Montgomery.
Finch made things look easy en route to his Spring Explosion 100 victory, topping all practice sessions, scoring the fast time in qualifying, pulling position number one in the redraw, and leading every lap on his way to victory lane.
“It’s just a testament to everybody at Ronnie Sanders Racing,” said Finch in victory lane. “I have a really good race car and I just did my job, I’m super excited. Five straight is a pretty cool feat. Hopefully, we’ll continue to do the stuff that we’ve been doing. We’ve got Mobile next weekend, so we’ll see how it goes.”
The Pro Late Model storylines didn’t end with Finch’s dominant performance, as second place finisher Steven Chunn (no. 84) scored an enthusiastic second-place finish on Saturday. The Tennessee driver started mid-pack but methodically worked his way up to the runner-up spot, scoring his career best finish in Show Me The Money series competition.
“I’m so blessed to be able to come out here and drive this thing. We’ve still got to find something for [Finch], but we’re getting there, and I’m happy with it. I’ll take it,” said Chunn post-race. “I took a break from racing. I reset myself, reset my mind, and came at it with a different attitude. I want to give a shout out to Lenny at DLP. We went and talked to him, and he taught us a bunch, and it helped a lot, and it showed. I think those two put together, we kind of just are starting to click away.”
Third-place finisher Presley Johnson (no. 82) improved by one spot from his fourth-place result at the Alabama 200 to score his first podium of the season at Montgomery. With the consistent start to the year, Johnson looks to be one of the top contenders for the 2026 Show Me The Money title chase.
“I don’t really know what to say,” Johnson said post-race. “We struggled last year, I sort of got in over my head, I’ll admit it. I was just a Pro Truck, Saturday Night guy, a Huntsville Speedway guy. I didn’t really have any business doing this. We struggled all last year. We’re finally heading in the right direction. We are tickled to death.”
Young racer Bowen Mayhue (no. 38) finished just one spot shy of the podium in fourth, with veteran racer John Wilkinson (no. 11) coming home in fifth position.

Tre Huff Sails to Victory in Race 1 of the Street Stock Tri-Track Cruise Quest
Race 1 of the Street Stock Tri-Track Cruise Quest proved to be bountiful for Toney, Al. native Tre Huff (no. 14x). While not originally crossing the line in first place, Huff still kicked off the three-race series on the right foot by scoring a victory with the Shelby Concrete Street Stocks.
“This means a lot to us as a team,” said Huff. “We’ve had a lot of ups and downs. We’ve prided ourselves on trying to go by Montgomery Motor Speedway’s rules. With that being said, I hate to get [the win] this way, but sometimes it pays.”
The original first-place finisher Jason Welch (no. 21) and third-place finisher Ryan Logan (no. 31) were found to be illegal in post-race technical inspection. After the disqualifications, Howard Langham (no. 1) and fast qualifier Darvin Lyons (no. 10) rounded out the podium behind Huff, with Kameron Wesenberg (no. 32) and Mason Johnston (no. 06) completing the top five.
The Tri-Track Cruise Quest will return to action for Race 2 on Friday, June 26th at Five Flags Speedway. The third and final race of the series will be held the following day, June 27th, at Mobile International Speedway.

J.R. Hartley Claims First Career Late Model Sportsman Victory
In another instance of post-race technical inspection altering the finishing order of a core division feature event, J.R. Hartley (no. 12) scored the Black Sheep Woodlands Late Model Sportsman victory after originally crossing the line in second position. While it wasn’t the method of victory that Hartley and his team hoped for, it remained a special celebration nonetheless, with Hartley claiming the fast time in qualifying and leading laps throughout the race.
“This is my first win at Montgomery, first win in a late model period,” said Hartley post-race. “Happy for all my guys who stuck with me for so long and saw it through. We definitely want to get another one that’s out on the track and not in the tech shed, but im just happy for my crew and thankful for all they do for me.”
Jeff Thompson (no. 2) had originally crossed the line first, but was disqualified for being too light over the scales. The same was true for Joey Holt (no. 51JD), who finished fourth. With the two disqualifications, Branon Bishop (no. 75) and Jeremy Peoples (no. 27) rounded out the podium in second and third places respectively. Larry Hughes (no. 88) officially came home in fourth, with Mike Silvey (no. 94) in fifth.

Austin Reeves Returns to Crown Stock Victory Lane
The points leader for the Hometown Automotive Solutions Crown Stocks, Austin Reeves (no. 6), returned to the winner’s circle for the first time since February with his Spring Explosion victory on Saturday. The speed came right out of the gate for Reeves, as he set the fast time in qualifying. Reeves was practically in his own zip code for most of the race, but a late-race restart with three laps remaining kept him honest.
“We worked on the car all week. We’ve got some pretty good guys helping with the setup,” said Reeves. “I didn’t want to see that caution. I had it set on cruise control.”
Behind Reeves, Chris Landers (no. 9) finished in the runner-up spot, with Trey Grimes (no. 51) in third. Rounding out the top five were Rock Clifford (no. 12) and Spencer Bragg (no. 22).
