August 29, 2016 Montgomery, Al: Kids and racing just go together and this past Saturday night we had plenty of both. With colorful bikes rolling in the front gate the night was shaping up to be a thrill for everyone.
Budweiser qualifying hit the track for all 3 divisions and some familiar faces were on top when the session finished. Continuing his fast tradition was #6 Charles Davis leading the Street Stock division and setting fast time of 23.141 with Brian Hutchinson #38 second at 23.185, Josh Wilson #12 23.334 and returning to Montgomery Motor Speedway after a 20 year absence was Terry Grimes #33 rounding out the top 4.
Modified minis also qualified for 1 lap and it was David Davis #22 claiming the top spot with a time of 22.994. Joel Collier #71 Multiple track champion was second at 23.035 and Rusty Alverson was 3rd at 23.444
Interstate batteries Late Model Sportsman saw the return of Dave Mader III and the seasoned veteran laid down a quick time of 21.190 followed closely by #88 Roger Reuse at 21.223. 3rd spot was grabbed by #51 Perry Patino 21.416. Last race winner Bobby East #1 clocked the 4th fastest time at 21.460. Rounding out the top 5 was Bert Belter #21 22.049.
The first division on the track after opening ceremonies was the Street Stocks. #38 Brian Hutchinson grabbed the top spot and held off all challenges till lap 10 when a slight bobble gave Charles Davis the opportunity he was looking for and he took over the top spot. The race ran clean and green with a good battle between the #12 of Josh Wilson and the #38 of Hutchinson. Wilson ended up taking the #2 spot from Hutchinson matching his best finish of his career at the #2 spot.
Tech Note : #12 car was DQ for failure to comply with post-race inspection.

Modified Minis were next on the card with a few old faces showing up in this late summer event. Joel Collier #71 has been struggling this year with mechanical issues but looked strong this evening with a 2nd place qualifying effort and Nick Doehring #11 returned after a long layoff.
The #21 of Steve Looney jumped into the top spot at 6the drop of the green flag. Looney could not hold off the strong charge of Joel Collier as he roared his way to the front by lap 3. As collier set the pace the battle was being waged behind him as the #7 of Rusty Alverson and the #22 of David Davis put on a show for the fans and #11 Nick Doehring and Steve Looney #21 also had a great door to door contest.

Next came the bike races and the kids were thrilled to get their rides out on the historic oval.
The First race saw Bentley Scott win with Cloe Kast running second.
The next group was led by Caleb Armstrong grabbing the top spot, Westin East running second and Wade Cook rounding out the top 3.
The final group was the big kids and Austin Albright won with Chris Parker 2nd and Drew Midkiff in 3rd.
Late Model Sportsman were the final event of the night and it looked like it would be clean and green but a spin by John Adams #19 in turn 4 slowed the pace of the race. As Adams was coming to a stop the #11 car of Clint Folsom made hard contact ending the night for both drivers. Perry Patino #51 was leading the race when the caution came out on lap 4. On the restart Dave Mader III who had worked his way up from 5th starting spot drove it hard into turn 1 and grabbed the lead as the field exited turn 2. Last Race winner Bobby East #1b who had to start 6th was heading to the front. East was able to get within 2 car lengths of Mader but could not finish the deal and ended up with a 2nd place finish. Patino who was still using a borrowed motor from the AIR Racing Roger Reuse team fell to 3rd but was running the same lap times as the leaders at the end of the race. Burt Belter in the Wood Brothers themed #21 had a great battle with current point’s leader Roger Reuse as they fought for the 4th position.

The Action returns to Montgomery Motor Speedway as the Alabama 200 is set for September 9th/10th/11th. The track will have an open practice on Friday with pit gates opening at 2pm. Open practice will be from 6-9. Fans can watch for free in the grandstands
Saturday September 10th pit gates will open at noon. Grandstands open at 5 with Budweiser qualifying at 5:30. Feature races will be Modified minis, Late model Sportsman and Street Stocks with qualifying for the Alabama 200 Southern Super Series and the Modifieds of Mayhem tour happening at 6:30.
Sunday the pit gates open at 10am, Grandstands at noon, autograph session at 1pm racing at 2
