March Madness Motor Classic Showcases Thrilling Local Competition

Montgomery, Alabama (March 30, 2026) — With the regular season fully underway at Montgomery Motor Speedway, the March Madness Motor Classic brought four of MMS’s core divisions to the forefront.

The Black Sheep Woodlands Late Model Sportsmen started their 2026 season at the March Madness Motor Classic with a 40-lap feature event. The Shelby Concrete Street Stocks also made their 2026 debut at MMS with a 35-lap contest. The South Alabama Plumbing & Electric Outlaws returned with a 35-lap race, and the Hometown Automotive Solutions Crown Stocks held a 25-lap feature.

Jeff Campbell Kicks Off 2026 Season with Impressive Late Model Sportsman Triumph

Jeff Campbell (no. 77) made it look easy on Saturday night, picking up a comfortable victory in the Black Sheep Woodlands Late Model Sportsman feature. By virtue of the redraw, Campbell started on the inside of the second row. It didn’t take long for Campbell to reach the front of the field, and he retained his advantage in spite of multiple late-race restarts. Campbell begins his hunt for the 2026 Late Model Sportsman championship on the right foot, leading the points standings after his season-opening victory.

“We’ve had a long offseason the last few weeks. We’ve been working our asses off to get this thing right,” said Campbell in victory lane. “I knew we had a hot rod after Lap 1 and then after that we just had to keep it going.”

Behind Campbell, Bobby Reuse (no. 88) and Jeff Thompson (no. 2) rounded out the podium. J.R. Hartley (no. 12) and Chris Wagner (no. 5) rounded out the top five in fourth and fifth places respectively.

Ryan Logan Wins Street Stock Feature Following Post-Race Tech

For Ryan Logan (no. 31L), the trip to victory lane with the Shelby Concrete Street Stocks wasn’t exactly straightforward on Saturday night. Originally crossing the finish line in fifth position, Logan inherited the victory following post-race technical inspection. Post-race measurements of wheelbase length ultimately resulted in the disqualification of the cars who finished first through third: Justice Evans (no. 44), Charles Davis (no. 6), and Kameron Wesenberg (no. 32). Fourth place finisher Bill Melvin (no. 26) was disqualified for not taking his car through post-race tech.

As a result of the post-race disqualifications, Nickey Pate (no. 08) officially finished in second place behind Logan. Dawson Parker (no. 16) rounded out the podium in third place. Hunter Bobo (no. 51b) and Matt Belter (no. 15) completed the top five.

Timothy Watson Gets Redemption with Outlaw Late Model Victory

Timothy Watson’s (no. 28) victory in the South Alabama Plumbing & Electric Outlaws feature served as redemption after the Baby Bear Races back in February. Back at the Baby Bear Races, Watson had been in contention for the top spot all race long before mechanical issues sidelined him. Watson originally crossed the line second at the conclusion of Saturday night’s Outlaw feature at the March Madness Motor Classic, but first place finisher Jeremy Williams (no. 89) was disqualified in post-race technical inspection for a wheelbase infraction.

“Car was just a little too tight in the center, but it started to come to me,” said Watson post-race. “Hopefully we can come back next time and do a little better.”

Behind Watson, Tennessee racer Tanner Arms (no. 87) officially came home in the runner-up position. Jesse Dutilly (no. 33d) rounded out the podium in third while Jake Daniels (no. 17d) and Keeton Harris (no. 07) completed the top five.

Jonathan Johnson Prevails in Thrilling Battle to Win Crown Stock Feature

Jonathan Johnson (no. 4) might have started up front and finished up front in the Hometown Automotive Solutions Crown Stock feature on Saturday night, but it wasn’t easy. Johnson led the field to green but quickly found himself defending against Austin Reeves (no. 6). The two wheelmen battled closely throughout the middle of the race, but Johnson ultimately prevailed, beating Reeves to the line by just over half a second.

“I knew [Reeves] was coming. I hated to see that first caution come out, but I timed the restart just right and it worked out,” said Johnson. “It worked out in our favor.”

Behind Johnson and Reeves, Justin Cruise (no. 45) finished in third to round out the podium. Chris Mitchell (no. 22) and Trey Grimes (no. 51) rounded out the top five in fourth and fifth places respectively.
