Summer Classic Delivers Thrilling Short Track Battles

Montgomery, Alabama (August 31, 2026) — Four of Montgomery Motor Speedway’s core racing divisions returned to action on Saturday night at the Summer Classic.

The headlining event of the night was the Rogers-Dabbs Performance/Shelby Concrete Street Stock 73, the longest race all year for the Street Stock class. The South Alabama Plumbing & Electric Outlaws, Black Sheep Woodlands Late Model Sportsmen, and Hometown Automotive Solutions Crown Stocks also competed.

Maddox Langham Wins Street Stock 73-Lapper with Thrilling Last-Lap Pass

The longest race of the night gave Maddox Langham (no. 1) plenty of time to plan his march to the lead in Saturday night’s Rogers-Dabbs Performance/Shelby Concrete Street Stock 73. Qualifying third fastest, Langham resided in the top five for most of the night, advancing toward the front after the scheduled fuel stop on Lap 30.

Charles Davis (no. 17) propelled to the front of the field after the halfway break, but he had to hold off a contingent of fast cars. Tre Huff (no. 14) led the first half of the night before losing the lead to Davis, with Chad Robinson (no. 10) challenging the leaders in the late stages of the race as well.

It was all for naught, however, as Maddox Langham worked his way up to second place with around three laps remaining. He then went on to pass Davis on the last lap in Turns 3 and 4, securing the win for the no. 1 machine in the longest Street Stock event of the season.

“I think running late models helped me a lot with learning how to ride in races,” said Langham. “That last restart, I missed a shift and it would not go into fourth gear. When I fell to fifth, I didn’t think I was going to have a chance. But after I got around Chad and closed so much on Charles, I just knew I had to take the shot. Opportunities like this don’t come but once in a while.”

Behind Langham, Davis originally crossed the line in second place. However, his machine did not pass post-race technical inspection, resulting in a disqualification. As a result, Chad Robinson officially finished second with Tre Huff rounding out the podium. Dawson Parker (no. 16) and J.C. Cleckler (no. 5) rounded out the top five.

Watson Scores Third Consecutive Outlaw Victory

Saturday night’s feature event for the South Alabama Plumbing & Electric Outlaws saw a familiar face return to Front Porch Grill victory lane, that being Timothy Watson (no. 28).

Watson, the points leader for the Outlaw Late Models, had his work cut out for him this week at Montgomery. Starting from the third row by virtue of winning the last time out, Watson had to methodically work his way towards the front of the field throughout the course of the 35-lap contest.

For a while, it looked like Kyle Lowry (no. 33) would pull away and score the victory, but a mechanical issue ended his race 10 laps prematurely. Watson inherited the lead following Lowry’s misfortune and never looked back, scoring his third win in a row at Alabama’s House of Speed.

“I get a lot more credit for winning these races than I deserve,” said Watson post-race. “My dad, he works on this thing constantly. The guys who come help me, Mr. Gary and Mr. Randy, we don’t pay them to be here. They just show up because they want to. I’m so thankful for them.”

Spencer Bragg (no. 08) came home second behind Watson, with Jeremy Williams (no. 89) finishing third. Jake Daniels (no. 17d) and Kyle Lowry completed the top five.

Chris Wagner Returns to Victory Lane with the Late Model Sportsmen

After a thrilling battle in the Black Sheep Woodlands Late Model Sportsman 35-lapper, Chris Wagner (no. 5) returned to Front Porch Grill victory lane for the second time in 2026 on Saturday.

The leaders were virtually inseparable for most of the feature, with Wagner duking it out against Trey Grimes (no. 51), J.R. Hartley (no. 12), and others throughout the course of the race. Coming to the white flag, Wagner found himself in second place when leader Trey Grimes suddenly lost power.

Taking advantage of Grimes’ mechanical gremlins, Wagner went on to score the victory. This particular triumph stands as Wagner’s second consecutive win at Alabama’s House of Speed.

“I don’t know what happened to [Grimes] on the last lap, just saw him slow up. We had some good, hard racing. I might’ve gotten into him a little bit, not on purpose, but hopefully it didn’t rub him the wrong way. Glad it wasn’t more than 35 laps, because I don’t think I have anything left after running that hard.”

Behind Wagner, J.R. Hartley came home in the runner-up spot. Thomas Hartzog (no. 00) rounded out the podium, with Trey Grimes managing to salvage a fourth place result after his late-race misfortune. Larry Hughes (no. 88) completed the top five.

Tyler Landis Scores First Crown Stock Win at Montgomery

Tyler Landis (no. 4) scored his first Hometown Automotive Solutions Crown Stock victory at Montgomery Motor Speedway on Saturday, but he had to fend off some extremely tough competition to do so.

Originally qualifying sixth, Landis found himself starting up front by virtue of the invert. Landis led from flag to flag, but he had to fend off some of the best in the business to secure the win. Points leader Austin Reeves (no. 6), Trey Grimes (no. 51), Spencer Bragg (no. 8), and Justin Cruise (no. 45) were all at one point hunting down Landis for the top spot.

Landis’ victory at Montgomery served as an extension of an already successful weekend, where he won the Non-Winners feature and the main Crown Stock feature at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola the day prior.

“We struggled all day in practice, it’s my first time being here. Learning the track was definitely a struggle, but I can’t thank Spencer Bragg enough for letting me wheel this thing. Super blessed to be here, that was great.”

Spencer Bragg and Trey Grimes completed the podium behind Landis. Justin Cruise finished fourth, with Chris Landers (no. 9) finishing fifth.

The event will also serve as the points-paying finale for the Modifieds of Mayhem Tour. Late Model Sportsmen and Street Stocks will compete as well.
