

August 5, 2019 Montgomery, Alabama : A first visit, a return visit and a Champions visit to Victory lane this past Saturday Night highlighted the Saturday of Speed 225.

Budweiser Qualifying had the #51 of Trey Grimes setting fast time in the Coca Cola Street Stocks at 23.282, #5 JC Cleckler 2nd at 23.303 and Billy Joe Austin #51 3rd at 23.441
“Show me the MONEY” series saw the #81 of Colby Howard top the charts at a 19.312 followed by Augie Grill #112 at 19.359 and rounding out the top 3 Jake Garcia #35 at 19.381
The first event of the evening had the Coca Cola Street Stocks competing for 50 laps and the fans were going wild … At the drop of the green it was Wayne Shell #1 at the point for the first 10 laps. Next it was veteran J.C. Cleckler #5 in the top spot for the next 5 laps. #6 Charles Davis was the next to grab the point position and held it for 2 laps when J.C. Cleckler #5 Made his move to the lead but #6 Charles Davis was having no part of that and took the lead on lap 26. It looked like the #6 had his 4th win of the 2019 season but the car lost power on the backstretch and slowed. Kameron Wesenberg #32 was the man of the hour as he pulled his car into victory lane for his first Street Stock feature win.

“The Show me the MONEY” series has been a proving ground for Pro late model drivers from all across the Southeast. With multiple winners this season it has been one of the most competitive series in the country. This past Saturday night was no exception.
After the redraw Budweiser fast time qualifier #81 Colby Howard was outside pole next to 6th fastest qualifier Perry Patino #51. The action was great and the race ran clean and green till lap 75 when Kyle Plott #4 brought out the first caution of the race. On the ensuing restart the caution flag flew as the #00 Curren, #2 Dawkins, #07 of Ferguson and the #5 of Logan Nalley were all involved.


On the 3rd restat the field got through the first lap but lap 76 saw the #112 Augie Grill hit the rumble strip in turn 1 and shot the car up the track gathering the #81 of Howard. The incident ended Grills night and dropped the veteran to second place in the points standings.

Some first time visitors to MMS had a pretty good night as #9 Jessica Dana , #67 Colin Allman and Logan Nalley #5 took their first laps around the tricky ½ mile. Jake Garcia #35 showed maturity for his young age as he raced at the front of the field with some short track veterans. Kyle Plott #4p moved his way back through the fild after his issue on lap 75. In the end it was Casey Roderick #18 in the Ronnie Sanders ride in victory lane.

TECH Note: The #35 and the #4 cars failed post-race inspection … left side weight percentage.
Late Model Sportsman hit the track for the last feature after losing 3 cars in practice (2 Crash, 1 Mechanical) the feature was cut to 35 laps. Mike Fields piloting the #21 grabbed the lead at the drop of the green. A good battle played out as Patino and Fields went back and forth swapping the lead as the race went on. Past track champion Joel Collier #71 debuted his late Model Sportsman and finished 4th. Patino #51 held the point from lap 7 on and brought home the checkers.

Montgomery Motor Speedway will be back in action for Champions night featuring the Coca Cola Street Stocks, Blacksheep Woodlands Late Model Sportsman, Modified Minis and the IMPACT Zone Roadrunners, all will crown a track Champion at the end of the night and a Modifieds of Mayhem 75 lap event will also be on the card as each division will compete for a coveted Hunt for the BEAR Trophy hand carved by artisan Keith Hodgens.
Friday night august 30th we will host our annual drivers appreciation cookout and practice. Gates open at 4 Practice from 5-7:30.
Tickets for this event are $15 for adults $10 seniors and Miltary $5 kids 6-12… Children 5 and under are free.
